Future 105 mm Light Gun Limber Included in Team Lionstrike UK’s LMP Proposal

Development of Advanced Mobility Solutions for the UK MoD

Introduction of the ISV-9 Variant

In a strategic move to enhance military mobility, Team Lionstrike is proposing a modified version of General Motors (GM) Defense’s Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV) capable of towing a 105 mm light howitzer. This initiative is part of the consortium’s submission for the UK Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) Land Mobility Programme (LMP), as indicated by a representative during a demonstration held on 13 November 2025.

Consortium Composition and Objectives

Team Lionstrike consists of three key players:

  • GM Defense
  • BAE Systems
  • NP Aerospace

Announced on 3 September 2025, the consortium aims to fulfill the LMP’s requirements, particularly in the areas of:

  • Light Mobility Vehicle (LMV)
  • Light Protected Mobility (LPM)
  • General Support Utility Platform (GSUP)

The LMV initiative is designed to replace the aging British Army’s Land Rover and Pinzgauer vehicles, which are expected to exit service by 2030.

Current Challenges with Existing Assets

The Pinzgauer, currently entrusted with towing the British Army’s 105 mm howitzers, is progressively becoming outdated. The representative highlighted that this deficiency underlines the urgent need for a modern replacement like the ISV, an essential upgrade to enhance operational effectiveness.

Vehicle Specifications and Capabilities

Team Lionstrike’s approach involves leveraging predominantly commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) vehicles to address an anticipated requirement for approximately 7,000 to 9,000 units under the LMV program. Here are some critical specifications of the ISV variants:

  • ISV-9 Configuration:

    • Personnel Capacity: Accommodates nine individuals
    • Load Capacity: 1,450 kg
    • Towing Capacity: 2,265 kg
  • ISV-U Utility Variant:

    • Personnel Capacity: Carries 4–5 personnel
    • Engine: Equipped with a 2.8-liter diesel engine
    • Fuel Tank: 79 liters, providing a range of 750 km

The extended ISV configurations showcase the versatility required to meet diverse operational demands of the UK armed forces.

Conclusion

Team Lionstrike’s initiative represents a significant advancement in military mobility solutions tailored for the UK’s defense landscape. By utilizing modern vehicle technology, the consortium not only aims to replace outdated platforms but also enhances the overall operational readiness and adaptability of the British Army. The integration of advanced mobility vehicles will play a crucial role in sustaining military efficacy in the face of evolving challenges.
