Blighter Expands Presence in Asian Market

Expanding Presence in the Asia-Pacific: Blighter Surveillance Systems’ Radar Initiatives

Overview of Radar Export Activity

UK-based Blighter Surveillance Systems is actively engaging with several nations in the Asia-Pacific region, specifically targeting opportunities in Thailand. The firm aims to supply advanced radar systems to bolster national defense capabilities.

Recent Contract Acquisition

Following a successful contract in Southeast Asia, Blighter has provided the B400 series radar systems to an undisclosed military organization within the region. These radars are intended for integration onto ground vehicles, facilitating enhanced border patrol operations.

Dialogues with Thai Military

At the recently held Defense & Security 2025 exhibition in Bangkok, CEO James Long emphasized the company’s ongoing discussions with both the Royal Thai Army (RTA) and the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF). The focus of these conversations is to address their respective surveillance needs, highlighting Blighter’s adaptability in meeting diverse military demands. The B400 radar was prominently displayed at the event, underscoring its capabilities.

Radar Deployment in Southeast Asia

Long revealed that Blighter has successfully exported the B400 radar to multiple military operators in Southeast Asia, specifically noting approximately 24 units deployed thus far. However, he refrained from providing specifics about the operators. Additionally, over 100 B400 units have been functioning along the 250-kilometer demilitarized zone (DMZ) that separates North and South Korea, where they have been operational for over a decade.

Market Potential in the Asia-Pacific

The growing market for Blighter’s radar technologies in the Asia-Pacific is attributed to two primary product lines:

  • B400 Series:

    • Long-range ground surveillance radar
    • Versatile for fixed, mobile, and portable setups
  • C400 Series:

    • Coastal surveillance radar
    • Also adaptable for a variety of deployment scenarios

Technological Capabilities

The appeal of Blighter’s offerings among Asia-Pacific militaries lies in their ability to monitor extensive areas. These radars are adept at detecting:

  • Moving vehicles and maritime vessels
  • Personnel, including low-profile threats (often referred to as ‘crawlers’)
  • Low-altitude aerial threats, with capabilities extending up to 32 kilometers

Conclusion

Blighter Surveillance Systems is strategically positioning itself within the Asia-Pacific defense market, leveraging its advanced radar technologies to fulfill surveillance demands. The company’s initiatives not only reinforce regional security but also contribute to its growing global footprint in defense technology. By tapping into the increased interest for advanced surveillance solutions, Blighter is well-placed to meet the evolving needs of military forces across the region.
