Adani Unveils New Loitering Munitions

Adani Defence and Aerospace Showcases Innovative Loitering Munitions at Defense & Security 2025

At the Defense & Security 2025 exhibition, held in Bangkok, Indian defense contractor Adani Defence and Aerospace unveiled an array of advanced loitering munition systems. The presentation included the SR-1 anti-personnel fixed-wing loitering munition and the VTOL-5, a vertical take-off and landing drone designed for anti-armour operations.

SR-1: Versatile and High-Performance

The SR-1 loitering munition boasts significant operational capabilities:

  • Payload and Range: Equipped with a 1 kg high-explosive warhead, the SR-1 can remain airborne for up to 45 minutes and operates effectively at altitudes of 4,500 meters.
  • Maximum Range: This system has a formidable operational range of 10 kilometers, facilitating tactical flexibility.
  • Intelligent Targeting System: The platform incorporates cutting-edge targeting technologies powered by artificial intelligence using sophisticated machine vision algorithms.
  • Operational Modes: The SR-1 can function autonomously or under human command, making it adaptable across various operational platforms—including land, air, and maritime environments.

VTOL-5: Precision and Evasion

The VTOL-5 is engineered for precision strikes against high-value targets. Key features include:

  • Design and Tactics: The VTOL-5’s low radar cross-section and high agility enhance its stealth capabilities, allowing it to evade enemy defenses effectively.
  • Control Mechanisms: This drone can be operated via radio control or by employing a fiber-optic spool, a technique that has gained attention for its effectiveness in contested electromagnetic environments, as evidenced in recent conflicts.
  • Operational Details: The VTOL-5 is designed as a cost-effective solution for both military operations and counter-terrorism missions.
  • Performance Metrics: With a claimed endurance of 20 minutes, the drone can achieve speeds of up to 120 km/h. It supports a payload of 620 grams and weighs 6 kilograms.

Deployment and Use

Reports indicate that Indian Army Para Special Forces (Para-SF) units have been utilizing the FPV system for approximately one year. This deployment highlights the increasing focus on integrating advanced drone technology within operational military frameworks.

In summary, Adani Defence and Aerospace’s innovations at Defense & Security 2025 reflect a commitment to enhancing the capabilities of the Indian armed forces through advanced, adaptable loitering munitions tailored for modern warfare dynamics. The SR-1 and VTOL-5 stand as pivotal components in an evolving defense landscape, meeting both tactical and strategic needs.
