On Wednesday, the United States Special Operations Command (SOCOM) released a request for proposals aimed at acquiring a contractor capable of providing specialized training for its personnel in the operation and assembly of first-person-view (FPV) drones.       • System design and integration principles
      • Analysis of operational limitations and performance metrics
      • Component identification and assembly, troubleshooting, and networking
      • Battery management and safety protocols
      • Advanced flight techniques and performance understanding
  • Supervised Build Instruction:

    • 5 hours focusing on:
      • Soldering and wiring methodologies
      • Use of configuration software such as Betaflight or Ardupilot
      • Basic maintenance and repair guidelines
  • Supervised Flight Instruction:

    • 40 hours of practical flying experience across various controlled environments, incorporating both indoor and outdoor flight simulations.

Capstone Exercise

At the culmination of this rigorous training, participants will engage in a capstone exercise designed to consolidate and demonstrate the skills acquired throughout the course. This hands-on evaluation is crucial for confirming operational readiness and the effective application of learned techniques in real-world scenarios.

Timeline and Contractual Details

The performance period is anticipated to initiate on January 15, 2026, and will take place at the contractor’s designated facility. SOCOM plans to award a firm-fixed-price contract specifically set aside for service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses, reinforcing its commitment to supporting veteran entrepreneurs while enhancing U.S. military capabilities.
