This event highlights the ongoing defense cooperation between Indonesia and Italy, particularly in maritime capabilities.

Advancements in Naval Capabilities

The KRI PRABU SILIWANGI -321 follows the successful delivery of its sister vessel, KRI BRAWIJAYA -320, in July. Together, these ships are set to enhance the Indonesian Navy’s capabilities and will serve as its largest and most technologically advanced combat vessels in the Indo-Pacific region. The acquisition of these two MPCS vessels is a significant milestone in safeguarding Indonesia’s national interests and ensuring maritime security.

Technical Specifications of the MPCS/PPA

The Multipurpose Combat Ship is designed with versatility in mind, capable of executing a variety of missions including:

  • Frontline combat
  • Maritime surveillance
  • Search and rescue operations
  • Civil protection activities

Key Features:

  • Length: 143 meters
  • Speed: Exceeding 31 knots
  • Crew Capacity: 171 personnel
  • Propulsion System: Combined Diesel and Gas Turbine (CODAG) propulsion alongside an electric propulsion mechanism

The ship is engineered to operate high-speed boats, such as Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIB), through its lateral crane or a dedicated hauling ramp at the stern, enhancing operational flexibility.

This expansion of Indonesia’s naval fleet aligns with the country’s broader defense strategy aimed at bolstering its maritime sovereignty and operational readiness. The collaboration with Fincantieri represents a strategic alliance that promises to advance regional stability and foster deeper defense ties between Indonesia and Italy.
