General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) has been tasked by the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) to produce a state-of-the-art reconnaissance vehicle for the German Army’s Reconnaissance Corps, designated as “LUCHS 2.” This significant procurement project carries an estimated contract value of approximately €3 billion.
Vehicle Specifications and Capabilities
The new reconnaissance platform will be based on the advanced PIRANHA 6×6 wheeled vehicle, distinguished by its amphibious capabilities. It is intended to replace the existing lightweight 4×4 reconnaissance vehicle, the FENNEK. Key features include:
