EUDIS Defence Hackathon: Call for Local Organisers for the Fourth Edition

European Defence Innovation Scheme Opens Call for Local Organisers

The European Defence Innovation Scheme (EUDIS), part of the European Defence Fund (EDF), has initiated a call for Local Organisers for the forthcoming 4th edition of the EUDIS Defence Hackathon. This event is scheduled to take place simultaneously at eight locations across Europe from 26–28 March 2026, with the objective of fostering innovation that enhances Europe’s defence preparedness and facilitates the development of advanced dual-use technologies.

Background and Significance

Since its inception, the EUDIS Defence Hackathon has emerged as a pivotal initiative within the EU aimed at stimulating defence innovation. Over its initial three editions, the programme successfully conducted 24 hackathons, engaging more than 1,200 participants from the EU, Norway, and Ukraine. This collective effort is crucial in advancing Europe’s evolving “New Defence” ecosystem, which comprises deep-tech innovators, applied researchers, and defence end-users.

Focus for Spring 2026 Hackathon

The upcoming edition will centre on the theme of Defending Airspace, a critical area reflecting current European security dynamics.

Detailed information regarding the theme, specific challenges, and application criteria for Local Organisers is available on the official EUDIS website.

Advantages of Becoming a Local Organiser

Institutions considering the role of Local Organiser will be instrumental in shaping the continent’s defence innovation framework. Hosting a hackathon permits institutions to:

  • Enhance visibility in national and European defence innovation.
  • Link regional innovation ecosystems with operational defence requirements.
  • Encourage collaboration among innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs, defence users, and startups.
  • Support the EU goal of integrating civil deep-tech capabilities with defence applications.
  • Contribute to solutions possessing genuine potential for deployment and dual-use.
  • Provide winning teams with access to the EUDIS Mentoring Programme for advancing technical, commercial, and defence expertise.
  • Receive notable financial backing from the European Commission to facilitate the execution of the event.

Participation provides an opportunity for institutions to directly contribute to the EU’s strategic objectives and support the development of a robust defence innovation ecosystem across Europe.
