Embraer Delivers First A-29 Super Tucano Aircraft to Uruguayan Air Force

Embraer has successfully delivered the initial two A-29 Super Tucano aircraft to the Uruguayan Air Force (FAU) as part of a broader initiative aimed at modernizing the fleet and enhancing operational capabilities. This acquisition includes not only the aircraft but also essential mission equipment, integrated logistics support, and a flight simulator.

Strengthening Long-Standing Partnerships

Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security, emphasized the significance of this delivery: “We are privileged to present the first A-29 Super Tucanos to the Uruguayan Air Force. This milestone furthers a partnership that has evolved over more than five decades, with Uruguay being our first international client.”

The A-29 Super Tucano represents a pivotal moment in the FAU’s operational capabilities, enabling functions such as airspace monitoring and border surveillance.

Enhancing National Defense Capabilities

Air General Fernando Colina, Commander in Chief of the Uruguayan Air Force, expressed his enthusiasm for this development. He stated, “Today marks a historic event for Uruguay and its air force. The arrival of the A-29 Super Tucano signifies the long-awaited modernization of our Combat Fleet. This acquisition positions Uruguay strategically in the region, providing cutting-edge technology with manageable operational costs. With these Super Tucanos, Uruguay now possesses a formidable tool to enhance our national security and sovereign defense.”

Colonel S. S. (Av.) Shandelaio González, Commander of the II Air Brigade, noted, “The integration of these aircraft represents a new technological landscape for the FAU. Their sophisticated onboard systems significantly broaden our operational capabilities, redefining our Air Power.”

Luis H. De León, a former commander-in-chief of the FAU, highlighted the aircraft’s role in enhancing national air defense, stating, “The procurement of this advanced system marks a significant achievement that our force has long anticipated to refine our operational effectiveness.”

The A-29 Super Tucano stands as a preeminent performer in its category, chosen by 22 air forces worldwide and achieving over 600,000 flight hours. Its unique blend of capabilities has attracted attention from various nations, emphasizing its efficiency and operational flexibility.

  • Drone Countermeasures: Enhancing its relevance in contemporary conflicts.
  • Advanced Technology: Equipped with precise target identification systems and a comprehensive communications suite.
