On 12 August 2025, Milrem Robotics announced a significant advancement in Ukraine’s defense capabilities: the integration of the Buria Remote Weapon Station (RWS) featuring a 40 mm automatic grenade launcher onto the THeMIS unmanned ground vehicle (UGV). These units will complement the 15 THeMIS UGVs financed by Germany that are currently deployed in Ukraine. Local Integration and Customization
According to Colonel Clayton, Ukrainian defense technology providers will be responsible for outfitting the new UGVs. This approach builds on prior contributions from the UK as part of NATO’s Enhanced Forward Presence in Estonia and Poland during 2019-2021. A notable example is the THeMIS equipped with the Buria RWS, which was developed in collaboration with Ukrainian firm Frontline.
