Frankenburg Technologies Expands Operations and Develops Key Defense Solutions
Strategic Growth in the UK
Frankenburg Technologies, based in Estonia, is advancing its global footprint with plans to establish an office in the United Kingdom. CEO Kusti Salm conveyed this commitment during an interview at the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) 2025 exhibition, which took place in London from September 9-12.
Research and Development Investment
Salm emphasized the company’s focus on scaling its research and development (R&D) capabilities. As part of this strategic initiative, Frankenburg Technologies is actively recruiting personnel to support its broader operations. He articulated a vision to enhance the company’s industrial partnerships and integrate into supply chains, aiming to position Frankenburg as both a UK entity and a prominent European player.
Collaboration with MARSS
During DSEI 2025, Frankenburg Technologies formalized a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with MARSS. This partnership is geared towards the integration of Frankenburg’s innovative Mark 1 missile system with the NiDAR command-and-control (C2) platform.
Overview of the Mark 1 Missile System
The Mark 1 missile is categorized as a low-cost air-defense solution, intended to serve as an effective countermeasure alongside various systems including:
- Radio frequency (RF) jammers
- Remote weapons systems
- Interceptor unmanned aircraft systems (UASs)
Technical Specifications
- Speed: The Mark 1 travels at velocities ranging from 300 to 350 m/s, approximately equivalent to Mach 1.
- Guidance System: Equipped with an onboard seeker for terminal guidance.
- Targeting Capability: Designed to engage class 1–3 UASs at altitudes between 1,200 meters and 2 kilometers, utilizing a fragmentation warhead.
Salm noted the significant advantage that missiles offer in terms of speed, asserting that this characteristic poses a challenge for competing drone-based interceptors.
Production Goals
Frankenburg Technologies aims to achieve a production capacity of up to 100 air-defense missiles daily, marking a significant investment in meeting growing defense demands.
These developments underscore Frankenburg Technologies’ commitment to innovative defense solutions and its strategic positioning within the European market. As they pursue these ambitious goals, industry stakeholders will be closely monitoring the impact of their initiatives on air-defense capabilities across the region.
