Fincantieri’s Strategic Expansion into Offshore Engineering through Remazel Acquisition
With over four decades of expertise in offshore engineering and more than 800 successful projects worldwide, Remazel has undergone significant transformation following its acquisition by Fincantieri in 2024. This marks a pivotal milestone for Fincantieri’s ambition to enhance its capabilities in the offshore and subsea sectors.
Leadership and Innovation
Fincantieri’s CEO, Pierroberto Folgiero, emphasized Remazel’s evolution into a premier entity, proficient at delivering intricate maritime solutions. Under his stewardship, the company is poised to establish itself as a frontrunner in the offshore equipment design and construction arena.
Andrea Rosa, CEO of Remazel, highlighted the extraordinary talent and dedication of their engineering team. This skilled workforce is adept at handling some of the world’s most complicated offshore initiatives, a notable example being the largest motion-compensated lifting system ever constructed, which is deployed on the Pioneering Spirit. This vessel, recognized as the world’s largest, specializes in the decommissioning of offshore oil platforms.
Operational Excellence
“The intricacy of our design and execution reflects both intellectual innovation and meticulous project management,” Rosa noted. The company’s systems are engineered for optimal performance across varied conditions, underscoring reliability, safety, and operational efficiency.
Having cultivated significant expertise in both the Oil and Gas and Wind sectors, Remazel provides an array of advanced equipment. Their offerings include launch and recovery systems for remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) utilized in diverse offshore energy and research domains, such as deep-sea mining for rare earth elements at depths reaching 5,000 meters with vehicles weighing up to 40 tonnes. Recently, Remazel secured a pivotal contract to construct mission-critical equipment aimed at safeguarding vital infrastructure, including subsea cables and pipelines. This accomplishment signifies Remazel’s strategic entry into a burgeoning market.
Advanced Technological Capabilities
Among its innovations, Remazel has developed a sophisticated Launch and Recovery System (LARS), specifically engineered for the deployment of underwater collectors. This system features advanced heave passive compensation as well as automatic connection and disconnection capabilities at subsea levels. Designed to endure extreme oceanic depths and pressures, it incorporates a resilient umbilical cable capable of withstanding 6,000 meters for both power and control operations.
Future Collaborations and Contributions
The acquisition by Fincantieri ensures that this wealth of expertise and innovative knowledge is anchored in Italy. Rosa expressed confidence that the Remazel team will significantly contribute to forthcoming underwater initiatives. The organization is already collaborating with WASS on defense market applications, with plans for additional partnerships across other subsidiaries within the Fincantieri group.
