Integration with Oshkosh Vehicles
Saab will provide an additional battery of the MSHORAD system, which will be seamlessly integrated into the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) 4×4 platforms produced by Oshkosh Defense. This strategic collaboration underscores the commitment to enhancing Lithuania’s air defense capabilities.
Statement from Saab Leadership
Görgen Johansson, the head of Saab’s Dynamics business area, expressed pride in supporting Lithuania’s national defense initiatives. He emphasized the advanced capabilities of the MSHORAD system, noting its resilience against sophisticated countermeasures. This elite mobile air defense solution allows military planners to prepare for predictable threats while maintaining responsiveness to unforeseen challenges.
Capabilities of the MSHORAD System
The MSHORAD system from Saab is designed specifically for vehicle integration, functioning as a robust protective barrier for mobile military units. Key features include:
- Advanced Radar Technology: The system incorporates the Giraffe 1X radar, which provides rapid and precise tracking of airborne threats.
- Missile Capabilities: It utilizes the RBS 70 NG short-range air defense missile, known for its effectiveness in neutralizing a variety of aerial targets.
- Integrated Command and Control: Equipped with a comprehensive Ground-Based Air Defence Command and Control (GBAD C2) system, the MSHORAD ensures effective coordination among units through sophisticated communication links.
By bringing together cutting-edge detection, identification, and engagement technologies, the MSHORAD system stands as a vital asset for safeguarding Lithuanian airspace in an increasingly volatile global security landscape.
